The staff is young and enthusiastic, very welcoming. The rules in place make you feel safe and the location is great near downtown and major attractions. Could use some cleanup in some areas or air freshener to improve air quality in common areas.
Great community of people. There are always fun activities going on every day. You can eat breakfast and dinner there for free! It was by far better than any hotel I've stayed in =) Thank you!
Not much; it is mediocre First of all rude staff (at least one); then other staff not really compatible and/pr knowledgeable (young girls arrived fresh from Brazil and put in charge of reception). The place is small, not really much of common areas (other than outside); Not very clean; congested bathrooms (upstairs where I stayed there was just one single bathroom for 4 room (that is 24 people...). Very small kitchen and dining room; and no breakfast (other than the instant packet of oatmeal). For the booking process online I give Zero; it is kind of misleading, in few ways. Total score - mediocre minus minus.
Nice, friendly, cozy, positive kind of small, rocking bunk beds, short on common areas and kitchen facilities
It was so exciting to meet wanderers from all over the world. There are so many stories to be shared and so many opportunities to do so. The Hostel is hospitable and so colorful. The laundry room was also a big plus!
Staff was nice but unprofessional, I shared a room with 5 homeless men. Upon arrival, room had foul stench and there was no mattress on the bed, simply a foam mattress topper, no more than 2 inches thick. Pillow was comparable to a bag with a newspaper stuffed into it. Overall not an ideal place, very loud and filthy. White bed frames were full of dirt and questionable stains. Bathrooms were small and not cleaned enough for their mass use. After, reluctantly falling asleep I woke up in the middle of the night to itching and several bug bites, only to find small bugs in my sheets. I can not say for sure that they were bed bugs, but regardless they left welt sized bites along the side of my stomach. Overall, horrible experience I left less than 3 hours after arriving and opted to sleep in my car for the rest of my stay in San Diego. Having stayed in hostels abroad in europe and asia, the Hostel Habibi would more accurately be described as a homeless youth shelter. Upon trying to request a refund, I was referred to my booking website, whom upon calling the hotel was told that they wouldn't refund me for the rest of my stay. Steer Clear of Hostel Habibi
